Giraglia Rolex Cup 2008
For 2008, famed Swiss watchmaker Rolex continues its role as principal sponsor of the prestigious Giraglia Cup, an important Mediterranean distance race. Beginning in St. Tropez, France, the competitors move through the picturesque Îles d'Hyères and across the sea, finally past the famous Giraglia Rock off of northern Corsica, and on to Genoa, Italy where the regatta finally ends, having covered a total of 243 nautical miles. The Giraglia Cup was conceived in 1952, the first race taking place in July of 1953 with 22 yachts participating. Rolex, known for its intimate association with many of the most prestigious yachting events through the world, has been principal sponsor of the Giraglia Cup since 1997.
